Here is a quick look at the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga that are worshipped on different days of Navratri:

1) Goddess Shailputri

On the first day (Pratipada) of the Navratri festival, Maa Shailputri is honored. The name Shailputri means “daughter of mountains” in the literal sense. She is credited with combining the abilities of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. On the first day of Navratri, worshippers are thought to be able to live healthier lives by presenting pure ghee to Goddess Shailputri.

2) Goddess Brahmacharini

The second day is dedicated to worshipping Maa Brahmacharini. On the one hand, she is shown holding a kamandalu, and on the other, a rudraksha mala. Goddess Brahmacharini is pampered by being given sugar. Long life is bestowed upon her devotees and their families by the lovely Goddess.

3) Goddess Chandraghanta

The third day is set aside for honouring Maa Chandraghanta. On her forehead is a crescent moon, and she has ten arms. She rides a tiger and has a ferocious expression on her face. She is renowned for eliminating all evil and easing suffering. Devotees should present Maa Chandraghanta with Kheer.

4) Goddess Kushmanda

Maa Kushmanda is honoured on the fourth day. Her name suggests that she is the universe’s creator. She bestows wisdom on her followers. One’s capacity for decision-making is also enhanced by worshipping her during Navratri. It is advised to make an offering of malpua to the goddess in order to appease her and win her favour.

5) Goddess Skandmata

The fifth day is dedicated to worshipping Maa Skandmata. The goddess has four arms and is perched on a lotus flower. Two of her hands are seen grasping a lotus. On her lap is Lord Kartikeya. To obtain the goddess’ graces, devotees should present her with bananas.

6) Goddess Katyayni

On the sixth day of Navratri, adoration is offered to Maa Katyni. She is a manifestation of Shakti and the offspring of Sage Katyayan. The warrior goddess is seen carrying a sword in one hand. To appease Maa Katyayni, honey is presented.

7) Goddess Kaalratri

Maa Kaalratri is honoured on Navratri’s seventh day (Saptami). She carries a trident in one hand and a sword in the other. She distinguishes herself from the other Goddess Durga avatars with her fearsome appearance and dark skin. Not to mention the third eye on her forehead, which supposedly contains the entirety of the cosmos, she contributes to enjoyment in life by easing suffering and removing barriers. In order to appease the goddess, devotees donate jaggery.

8) Goddess Mahagauri

Mahagauri is honored on the eighth day of Navratri, which is known as Durga Ashtami. She is holding a Damru in one hand and a Trishul in the other. Mahagauri is renowned for both her radiant beauty and her kindness. It is well recognized that coconut is the best offering for her.

9) Goddess Siddhidatri

The ninth day of the Navratri celebration is dedicated to the devotion of Maa Siddhidatri. On a lotus flower, she may be seen relaxing. The goddess is a representation of perfection who is thought to protect her followers from abnormal occurrences. She is presented with sesame seeds.
