The Mumbai metro is an ambitious and colossal infrastructure development that is the responsibility of the Maharashtra Government. When fully operational, the Mumbai metro is expected to provide Mumbai’s residents with affordable, seamless, and extensive connectivity options. This Mumbai metro is currently being executed under the supervision of the Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority (MMRDA). Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority (MMRDA). A majority of Mumbai Metro Corridors remain in various phases of development. As of March 2022, only one line of the Mumbai metro, i.e., Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar or Blue Line, is operational. Mumbai Metro Route – Line 1: Blue Line on Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Route

The yellow line is, among the most extended lines on Mumbai Metro. Mumbai Metro network. It is divided into two sections. Line 2A runs from Dahisar East station to D N Nagar, and Line 2B extends from ESIC Nagar to Mandale locality.
Yellow line 2A has approximately 18.5 km, while yellow line 2B measures longer than 23 km. It is the longest Yellow line being constructed with an investment of more than Rs 17,000 crores over several stages. It is interesting to note that Line 2 will be an entirely elevated metro system.

Mumbai Metro Line 3, or Aqua Line, will drive through the Cuffe Parade in South Mumbai to the Aarey Colony in the north.

Mumbai Metro Route – Line 4: Green Line from Wadala to Kasarvadavali

Status: Under Construction

Stations on Green Line 4 of Mumbai Metro

In addition to the mentioned stations along the Green Line 4 of the Mumbai Metro, two additional stations are being built on the same route. The stations planned include Gowniwada as well as Gaimukh stations. The total cost of greenline 4, which includes 4A, and Greenline 4 (including 4A) is over Rs 15,500 crore.

Mumbai Metro Route – Line 5: Orange Line from Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan

Status: Under Construction

The Orange Line 5 of the Mumbai Metro will be built at a cost estimated to be 8 417 crores. The line is elevated completely and will cover a 25 km distance. To improve connectivity, Orange Line 5 will connect to Metro line 4 along the Wadala-Thane road along with Metro line 11 in Taloja along with Kalyan.

Mumbai Metro Line 6 or Pink Line will run between Swami Samarth Nagar to the Kanjurmarg route. A large portion of the Pink line will be located along the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link road and will be an elevated section. The entire project is constructed at the cost of Rs . 6716 crores.

Mumbai Metro Route – Line 7 & 7A: Red Line from Dahisar East to Mumbai Airport

Status: Under Construction

Mumbai Metro Stations Red Line (7 & 7A)

The distance of the Red line will extend over 33.5 kilometers. It will connect to the international airport in Mumbai. The red line will be advantageous for commuters coming from all parts of Mumbai.

Mumbai Metro Route – Line 8: Gold Line from CSIA to NMIA (Airport Connector)

The Gold line was once one of the most innovative modern metro lines. Operating the Gold line will link the International Airport of Mumbai with the Navi Mumbai airport. The estimated length of this connector project is more significant than 15,000 crores. The entire stretch that makes up this Gold Line metro is expected to comprise more than eight metro stations.

Mumbai Metro Route – Line 9: Red Line from Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayander (Under Construction)

Metro Line 9 of the Mumbai metro is the extension of Line 7. The red line 9 will run from Dahisar East to the Bhayander region of Mumbai.

Mumbai Metro Red Line 9 Stations

This Mumbai metro stretch will have over 8 stations, and the entire station will be elevated. The cost of the entire red line stretch is estimated to be around Rs 6,518 crore.

Mumbai Metro Route – Line 10,11 (Extension of Red Line 4)

Mumbai Metro Lines 10 and 11 are extensions of Mumbai metro line 4. The line is known as the Red Line. The proposed Red Line 10 will connect the Gaimukh area to Shivaji Chowk on Mira Road. This will make a 9 km stretch that will have nine metro stations. Metro line 10 is expected to be built at the cost of the sum of Rs 5 crore.
In the same way, the red Line 11 will connect Wadala to the CSMT region. The line will measure 12.7 km long and will house eleven metro stations. The project will be completed at an estimated amount of Rs 8,739 crore.

Mumbai Metro Route – Line 12: Orange Line

This Mumbai metro line is planned to be part of Mumbai Metro Line 5 (Orange Line). Line 12 will connect Kalyan to the cities of Kalyan to Taloja. This route will provide last-mile connectivity throughout Mumbai. Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Mumbai Metro Route – Line 13: Purple Line

This metro stretch will link the Virar region to the Mira Bhayander. The metro line will run for 23 km in length and will be constructed with a cost estimated at $6900 crore. It will be referred to as the Purple Line Metro. There will be a number of stations. has still to be determined for the length.

Mumbai Metro Route – Line  14: Magenta Line

Mumbai Metro Line 14 is a planned metro stretch connecting Kanjurmarg and the Vikhroli region of Mumbai. It will stretch to the Ambernath Badlapur region and link Mumbai with the surrounding regions of Thane. The entire stretch is expected to be completed for Rs 13,500 crore.

Navi Mumbai Metro 

A part of the rapid transit system that covers areas in the Navi Mumbai region, The Navi Mumbai Metro project is currently being constructed and managed through CIDCO. City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). The 23-km length of the Navi Mumbai Metro will have twenty metro stations. The entire project is built at the cost of Rs. 4,163 crores.

Types of Ticket

Mumbai Metro provides Tokens and Smart Cards for passengers.

Tokens

  • The token represents a ticket that a person can buy for one journey. The token is good for one day from purchase until the end of operating hours during the day.
  • After you have been accepted into the system, i.e., tapping the token in the paid area, you have to leave the station in 20 minutes or at the destination station after 75 minutes.

Smart Card

  • Smart cards are electronic cards that you can buy at the Mumbai Metro station’s Customer Care counter. You must pay a security fee of 50 rupees. 50, recharge it with another Rs.100/200/300/500 (or 1000).
  • The cost of the journey (from the station you are at to the next) is taken off the card every time you swipe the card at your exit point.

This card is excellent for those who don’t travel often, And the Smart Card is the most suitable option for frequent travelers.

Mumbai Metro: Latest News

August 2022

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has declared the work being done is complete on Metro Line 7 (Dahisar E-Andheri E), and 2A (Dahisar-DN Nagar) is at 98% complete. According to MMRDA, a test schedule is planned for the line by the end of October this year. It is expected that the operation of this line will start at the end of December 2022. The construction work on the two lines began in April of 2022. The entire corridor is comprised of 30 stations. Once the lines are fully operational, they can carry around 30000 passengers.
The Supreme Court has directed Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited not to cut down trees at Aarey Colony. Additionally, the court has ordered that strict procedures will be instituted if the order is not followed. MMRCL has previously informed the Supreme Court that no trees have been chopped in Mumbai’s Aarey colony since October 2019. In 2019, the Bombay High Court refused to declare Aarey Colony a forest area and blocked MMC’s MMC decision to permit the cutting of more than 2,600 tree species in the Green Zone to set up the Metro car shed.

July 2022

The Trial Runs of The New Metro Line: The trials to test Phase 2 of Mumbai Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to Andheri-West) and Line 7 (Andheri-East to Dahisar) will commence in August, as MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority) is eager to operate these lines before the year’s end. RDSO (Research Design, Development, and Standards Organization) will monitor the trial runs. They will look at the system of integration, which includes the signaling system and civil construction. After that, the MMRDA will contact the CRS (Commission of Safety in Railways) for final approval.

June 2022

The new metro line will start operating in 7 months. According to an officer from the Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA), the second phase of Mumbai Metro line 2A and line 7 will become operational in the next seven months. Phase 2 runs from Dahisar up to Andheri West, and phase 7 runs connect Andheri and Dahisar East. The opening in this stage will join the corridor with Andheri starting from Dahisar. About 80% of the work is completed on this stretch.

Mumbai Metro has completed eight years of service. The month of June marked the day that Mumbai Metro was able to complete 8 years of operation in Mumbai. Since 2014 the metro has served 780 million Mumbaikars and completed 8.8 lakh journeys. The metro currently transports 5.2 lakh people, each day.

May 2022

Mumbai metro line 3 is delayed. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) aims to make the line (Colaba-SEEPZ-Bandra line) operational in 2024. The construction work on this line was delayed because there was no place for the car shed and electric and civil issues.

April 2022

E-ticketing using Whatsapp The date was April 15th, 2022, and an initiative to e-ticket was introduced by the Mumbai Metro. It is known as “Mumbai Metro One” Also, e-tickets are now available via WhatsApp.

Lines 2A and 7, Phase 1, to begin in an announcement made in the last few days announced by officials from the Maharashtra State Government has announced the opening of two major Metro lines. The lines will be accessible to the general public beginning at Gudi Padwa in 2022 (April 2). According to government sources, Metro Line 2A and Metro Line 7 will be open to commuters using Gudi Padwa. Metro Line 2A will be running between Dahisar West to D N Nagar (Andheri West), and Metro Line 7 will be running starting from Dahisar East to Andheri East. Gudi Padwa is recognized to be the Maharashtrian New Year day in all states of the state. Additionally to that, the remaining parts comprising Metro Line 7 and Metro Line 2A are scheduled to be completed by 15 August 2022.

QR-based ticket QR-based tickets made of paper (Quick Response) were created to decrease plastic usage. It was the first time an initiative was introduced in the Mumbai Public Transport System. It’s easy to issue tickets using paper compared to plastic tokens.
