Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway runs 701 km long, an expressway with six lanes. It is officially referred to as the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg. It is a route that passes through 390 villages and crosses ten districts of Maharashtra.

It will significantly reduce the distance from Mumbai to Nagpur. It is also a Greenfield project that was which was announced in the year 2015, and the land acquisition started in the year 2017. Prime Vice-President Narendra Modi laid the foundation for the Mumbai Nagpur Expressway in December 2018.

The project’s goal is to increase the development of the state’s rural areas. Connectivity across all regions will be offered as a gateway for international and national markets. The expressway will connect Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai, Nagpur, and Nagpur Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN). To ensure that the expressway is a practical project, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has worked all day hours with unbeatable skills and a vision for the future.

Nagpur from Mumbai Expressway: Latest News (November 2022)

Samruddhi Expressway is expected to become operational in 2023. Vice chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has declared that the Nagpur Mumbai Expressway will be inaugurated in month of January 2023. “Inauguration of this expressway is expected to be completed soon and will be done by the PM himself. Even the chief minister Eknath Shinde has asked the PM to do it, after which we received a favorable response. The only thing left is to decide on the date. However, I doubt that it will be done before Diwali,” Devendra Fadnavis said.

Speed Limits Set at Nagpur from Mumbai Expressway A maximum speed limit of up to 120 km/h is set through Maharashtra Highway Police for Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg. In a notice that was issued on October 4th 2nd, two-wheelers automobile rickshaws, quadricycles, and auto rickshaws are not allowed to travel on the expressway.

The cars that fall in the “M1 category, which can hold eight people, are allowed to be driven at the speed of 120 kmph, and at Ghat sections as well as tunnels, the speed limit is set at 100 km/h. If the number of people exceeds eight, then the speed limit is 100 kmph, and for tunnels and ghats, the speed limit is 80 km/h. For all vehicles that fall under the N-Category category, the speed limit for top speed is 80 km across the expressway.

A 210-km stretch that is part of the Mumbai Nagpur expressway that runs between Nagpur and Shelu Bazaar, Washim district began operation in May of 2022. The second stretch, 390 km long and extending between Shelu Bazaar through Shirdi, is scheduled to start the process in the summer of 2022. Other parts along the Mumbai Nagpur Expressway will be operational by the end of March 2023.

There are numerous benefits the expressway can provide. Let’s take review the advantages:

  • Improve EXIM trade. The expressway connects Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) as well as the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. Additionally, certain districts have connections to these corridors and as the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, which could lead to increased EXIM trade.

  • Promoting tourist attractions: The Samruddhi Mahamarg will also help encourage travel in Shirdi, Verul, Lonar, Ajanta, etc.
  • New towns are to be constructed: Krushi Samruddhi Nagar is a New Town Development Authority (NDTA) that will create cities along an expressway. The goal of developing these towns is to improve the lives of farmers who live in the area. These towns will increase the production of industrial equipment, commercial facilities, and trade.
  • Accelerate economic growth New Agro-based towns are being developed in various cities, which will increase the income of many farmers. In the same way, it will create more job opportunities for non-agriculturalists too.

  • A shorter traveling time Travel time from Mumbai to Nagpur will be cut to eight hours. At present, it is 16 hours. Roads are being constructed of international standards and will provide an easy and secure driving experience.
  • Promoting companies: Various agro and industrial nodes will be connected to the expressway since Nagpur as well as Mumbai are the primary consumers’ markets. In addition, the Krushi Samruddhi Nagar will provide top-of-the-line infrastructure, excellent transportation, and high-quality lodging to investors.
  • The Green Corridor project Mumbai Nagpur Expressway is a Green Corridor project meaning 12.68 lakh trees will be planted along the expressway. Of these, it will have small trees and shrubs as well.

701 km long, The 701-km Mumbai Expressway route stretches across ten districts and 390 villages. It is the central district of Maharashtra, such as Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Washim, Buldhana, Jalna, Aurangabad, Nashik, Ahmednagar, and Thane.

Along the route, you will find three animal sanctuaries that have underpasses, overpasses, high culverts, and underpasses constructed. The longest tunnel is being constructed in Kasara Ghat in Igatpuri. The expressway will include 33 major bridges as well as 274 minor bridges. Six tunnels along with 65 flyovers.

Mumbai Nagpur Expressway will also link these important tourist spots in Maharashtra.

Bids on the Expressway was open in March 2018 and 18 companies bid, such as Reliance Infrastructure, Megha Eng & Infra Ltd, NCC Ltd, TPL CENGIZ JV, L&T Ltd, Sadbhav Eng Ltd, PNC Infratech Ltd, Afcon Infrastructure Ltd BSCPL GVPR Jv, etc. Contracts were granted to builders in the month of January. In addition, the project was split into sixteen civil package.

Proposed Toll Charges for Mumbai Nagpur Expressway

If you travel along this smooth highway you must pay the tolls. The toll gate will have 26. The MSRDC has launched a call for bids on the gates, and is waiting on acceptance from the Maharashtra government before transferring it to another third party.
