Posted on April 5, 2023April 5, 2023 By Nupur Chawale No Comments on Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway ( Samruddhi Mahamarg): Route Map, Cost and Status

The Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway is a 701-kilometer-long, six-lane highway. Officially, the motorway is called the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg. It passes through 390 villages and ten Maharashtra districts. It will cut travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur significantly. This Greenfield project was launched in 2015, with land acquisition beginning in 2017. In December 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the groundwork for the Mumbai Nagpur Expressway. Let’s study Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway ( Samruddhi Mahamarg): Route Map, Cost and Status.

The project intends to enhance rural economic development in the state. It will enable connectivity between areas and serve as a gateway to national and international markets. The motorway connects Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Nagpur’s Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN). The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has been working around the clock, day and night, to ensure the motorway’s success.

Mumbai Nagpur Expressway (Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg): Latest News (February 2023)

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to provide interceptor vehicles to the state transport department and highway patrol police to prevent accidents. MSRDC will make Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway safer: Interceptor vehicles, speed guns, and highway patrol police would make Samruddhi Mahamarg safer. Since the motorway’s opening in December 2023, it has been involved in at least 40 accidents, seven of which have resulted in fatalities. Following multiple discussions between MSRDC and the Transport Department, it was discovered that the overspeeding problem was with large vehicles rather than passenger vehicles.

Samruddhi Mahamarg will be safer with interceptor vehicles, speed guns, and the highway patrol police, according to MSRDC’s plan to make the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway safer. Since the motorway’s December 2023 opening, at least 40 incidents have resulted in seven fatalities. The state transportation agency and the highway patrol police will get interceptor vehicles from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to decrease accidents. After multiple meetings, it was discovered that large vehicles were more likely to be involved in overspeeding incidents than passenger vehicles.

Mumbai Nagpur Expressway to Boost Real Estate Investment

Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg will favourably impact the development of the economy and infrastructure. Maharashtra’s vice capital is Nagpur, whereas Mumbai is the state’s capital. To increase the link between these two cities, a motorway was built. The highway will benefit the nearby areas by passing through ten less-developed districts.

Along the highway, the government intends to build skill-based businesses, IT centres, and educational institutions to help the local economy. The demand for real estate investment will consequently rise. These areas have historically relied on agriculture and dairy farming. The motorway is also projected to increase exports and imports. This is due to Jawaharlal Nehru Way and the Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg’s excellent connectivity to the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway.

According to Ashish Garde, president of the Marathwada Chamber of Industries and Agriculture, the region that primarily surrounds Aurangabad currently has six industries. Automobile parts, engineering, pharmaceuticals, breweries, and numerous domestic IT firms are among them. These IT companies would receive outside assistance for growth once the Mumbai-Nagpur motorway is operational. There may be an increase in employment opportunities as a result, which will increase the demand for housing in the neighbourhood.

Mumbai to Nagpur Expressway: A High Tech Expressway

The Mumbai to Nagpur Expressway, known as Samruddhi Mahamarg, is an artificial engineering marvel. The motorway was constructed using the following technologies, which set it apart from other projects:

  • For the protection of drivers and to reduce accidents, a motorway has an intelligent transportation system (ITS). The ITS system keeps track of potential roadblocks and monitors them in real-time. Additionally, this system provides current weather reports. The Integrated Traffic Management System, the Toll Collection System, and the Optical Fibre Cable network are the main components of this system. Along with these additional services, this system also provides visual messaging, video incident detection, traffic violation control and surveillance, vehicle detection, drone-based surveillance, tunnel management system, speed and lane enforcement, and more.
  • Every 100 kilometers of the motorway is home to an electronic toll collection station.
  • On the entire road, EV charging stations have also been erected.

Conclusion – Mumbai Nagpur Expressway

The 701 km (6-lane) Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway is a motorway. It travels via Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Washim, Buldhana, Jalna, Aurangabad, Nashik, Ahmednagar, and Thane. The projects will increase employment and the economic growth of the rural sector. Additionally, because it is a Green Corridor project, trees will be planted alongside the motorway for 12.68 lahks. By December 2022, the highway is anticipated to be completely operational.
