Posted on May 25, 2023June 2, 2023 By Nupur Chawale No Comments on How to Worship Lord Jagannath at Home – during Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra

During the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath is worshipped. You can still worship the Lord at home even if you are not a part of the Rath yatra. Here is how to worship Lord Jagannath at home.

One of India’s most significant celebrations is the Jagannath Rath Yatra. The nine-day festival revelry continues. It will start on June 23rd of this year. Thousands of worshippers travel to the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Orissa, each year to participate in the Ratha Yatra event. This holiday was first held at Jagannath Puri and is now enthusiastically and fervently observed across the nation. In this blog will see How to Worship Lord Jagannath at Home – during Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra.

The Rath Yatra will be celebrated for the 146th time this year. A pilgrimage to the temple and praying to the deity is thought to bring luck and prosperity into your life. However, you can still worship Lord Jagannath at home if you cannot go to the temple and participate in the lavish festivities.

In addition to being worshipped as Lord Jagannath, He is also known by the names Lord Krishna, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Narasimha. This section covers how to worship Lord Jagannath at home during the Rath Yatra event.

Essential Items to Worship Lord Jagannath at Home

Read on to learn what are the essentials of how to Worship Lord Jagannath at Home – during the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra.

Bring Home A Beautiful Jagannath Idol or Picture

The central object of the puja is an image or idol of Jagannath. You can buy wooden statues of Subhadra Devi, Lord Baldeva, and Lord Jagannath. They are accessible in numerous Iskcon temples and in Jagannath Puri itself. Choose the images of these gods if you are unable to obtain one. Find a photo of Lord Jagannath from an Iskcon or the Jagannath Puri temple. You’ve probably noticed that Lord Jagannath’s statues in Iskcon temples always have broad smile on their faces. Online retailers sell wooden idols and images of the Lord. Remember that Brother Baladeva, Sister Subhadra, and Sudharshan Chakra are always present with Lord Jagannath.

Design A Big Altar for Lord Jagannath

You ought to build Lord Jagannath a lovely altar. Make sure it is large enough for the Lord to be seen. Never keep a little idol or portrait in the pooja room, cabinets, or lockers. Lord Jagannath should have a prominent spot in your home rather than being kept in a corner. Instead of keeping the Lord in the pooja room, it is advised that you keep a sizable altar for Lord Jagannath in your living room. The main advantage of having Lord Jagannath there is that everyone in the family will undoubtedly enter and exit the room frequently throughout the day, allowing them to enjoy the sight of him. The Lord benefits the most from your focus in this manner. Your home is His, and He is the one who created it, as evidenced by His placement in the living room. During the celebration, your visitors will also get His blessings when they come to your house.

Worship the Lord with Incense Sticks

Light the incense sticks, then circle Lord Jagannath’s body seven times clockwise. Move these sticks seven times in the same direction around Lord Baladeva. Use Ghee Lamp or Diya to Worship Gods

Light the incense sticks, then circle Lord Jagannath’s body seven times clockwise. Move these sticks seven times in the same direction around Lord Baladeva. Use the same procedure to worship Sudharshan Chakra and Subhadra Devi. Have at least three incense sticks; having more, like five or seven, would be ideal.
Slowly and with total commitment, offer the lamp.

The family members can accept the given lamp to purify themselves after worshipping the gods. They can touch their forehead and eyes by placing both palms over the bulb.

Bath the Idols of the Gods

Move the water-filled conch seven times clockwise around Lord Jagannath’s complete body and three times on top of His head. Now fill the tiny pot with some water from the conch.

After that, bath Lord Baladeva using the same conch and the remaining water. Turn the conch three times clockwise around Lord Baladeva’s head, then seven times around His body. Add water from the conch to the container collected after Jagannath is bathed.

The Sudharshan Chakra and Subhadra Devi idols should be worshipped similarly.

Use the non-blowing conch for a bath, the Lord. After bathing the idols, wash your family and yourself with the holy water in the tiny pot.

After bathing, dry the deities and Sudharshan Chakra. Seven times, sweep a little handkerchief-sized cloth over Jagannath’s entire body. Lord Baladeva, Subhadra Devi, and Sudharshan Chakra should be treated similarly.

Offer Flowers to Lord Jagannath

Seven times clockwise, circle Jagannath’s body with the flower plate. Move it similarly around the Sudharshan Chakra, Subhadra Devi, and Baladeva statues. Now take some flowers and place them on the idols’ lotus feet.

Blow the Lord with Chamara or Yak Tail Fan

To blow the Lord, use a yak tail fan or chamara. Fan it up by moving it up and down around the body of the Lord. Seven times should be done. Apply the same strategy to other idols. And instead of only seven explosions, if time permits, make more.

Fan the Lord with Peacock Fan

As you did with the idols, fan the Lord with a peacock fan. Seven times fan the Lord’s entire body. If time allows, fan the idols more than seven times, just like with the Chamara.

Sing Kirtan While Worshipping Lord Jagannath

When praising Lord Jagannath, sing Hare Krishna Kirtan. If your family is taking part in the puja service, they are also welcome to sing along. Play the mridangam and cymbals as well. Anyone can generally play cymbals, but playing the mridangam requires practice. You can also sing the Hare Krishna kirtan because Lord Krishna is another name for Lord Jagannath.
Additionally, say specific prayers to Lord Jagannath. If you know it or have a poem book, you can sing Shankaracharya’s Jagannathastakam prayer. You can practice it in advance, even though the lyrics and music are complex.

Summing Up Lord Jagannath Pooja at Home

Because worshipping connects you to the gods and prepares you to welcome them home, you must worship the Lord with great care and devotion. While taking part in the celebration, keep your composure, focus, and relaxation. Worship them with love and care each day to create a sacred space in your home and attract positive energy and joyful vibrations.
