The Lucknow Metro is currently being constructed through the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. It covers the affluent and fashionable areas of Lucknow.
Most of the route is elevated viaducts, with the minor portion running underground. Trains with four carriages operate at speeds of 90 km/h. They have a headway of 5 minutes.
The system utilizes standard gauge (1435 millimeters) tracks and an overhead catenary providing 25 kilovolts of alternating power. At present, just over 11,000 people are using the system daily. Lucknow Metro – Route, Lines, Fare, Timings, and Latest News.

Lucknow Metro Lines

There are two operational metro lines running in Lucknow.

  • The Red Line: The red line route runs from Munshipulia to CSS Airport and is the North-South Corridor.
  • The Blue Line: The Blue Line route will operate from Charbagh Metro Station to Vasant Kunj Metro Station. It will be known as the East-West Corridor.

Red Line Metro Route

The Metro’s Lucknow Red Line is also known as the North-South Corridor. The Red Line’s complete commercial service between Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport to Munshi Pulia was launched in March 2019. The Red Metro line has a total of 21 stations, 17 of them elevated and four underground.

Blue Line Metro Route

The Blue Line is also known as the Lucknow Metro’s East-West Corridor. The Blue Line has been proposed, and the Central Government gave it to the DPR. It will become operational starting from Charbagh Station and stretching to Vasant Kunj. It is the Blue Line has a total of 12 stations. These include six underground and six elevated.

Overall, there are 6 corridors planned for the Lucknow metro:

  • Phase 1: Secretariat Metro Station To CG City South Extension Metro Station
  • Phase 2: CCS (Chaudhary Charan Singh) Airport Metro Station to Atal Bihari Vajpai Stadium Metro Station
  • Phase 3: Indiranagar Metro Station Metro Station to Atal Bihari Vajpai Metro Station Metro Station
  • Phase 4: Charbag Metro Station to SGPGI Station Metro Station
  • Phase 5: IIM Lucknow Metro Station to Rajajipuram Stadium Metro Station
  • Phase 6:  Munshipulia Metro Station to Jankipuram Metro Station

The primary two interchange stations on the Lucknow metro route areas are as follows:

Its north-south Corridor includes one Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport metro station. The station connects Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport with the other parts of Lucknow.

Alambagh is an elevated station of the metro’s Red Line. It’s just 1.1 kilometers away from the Alambagh Bus Stand. The station has two platforms as well as two gates at Metro Station.

  • If you take the train at CCS Airport, you can get to Alambagh Bus Stand for INR 20. IT College for INR 50 and Munsipulia for INR 60.

  • The first Lucknow Metro starts at 6 AM, while the last one departs from the station at 10 PM.

  • Improvement during the peak hours is 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

Lucknow Metro Card

GoSmart Card

GoSmart Card is designed for frequent travelers. It offers the chance to save on the metro fare. You can top it off at any station’s ticket office, TVM, RCTM, or even online. You can also utilize UPI and LMRC’s LMRC website to recharge your credit card.
The minimum amount to purchase GoSmart Cards is 200. In addition, INR 100 represents the amount to deposit, and INR 100 is the minimum amount to recharge. The initial investment of INR 100 is fully refundable. You can look up the balance remaining on your GoSmart Card at any metro station’s customer support center.

Tourist Card

Tourist Card is specifically designed for travelers and offers unlimited travel for one day or unrestricted travel for up to two days. A deposit that is refundable in the amount of INR 100 will be required at the time of purchasing the card. This will be reimbursed after your card has been returned.

Lucknow Metro Automatic Fare Collection Machine

The LMRC LMRC, Datamatics has installed the most advanced Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system designed to be safe, scalable, and reliable. It can handle many passengers with no degradation in performance or user experience. The system’s flexibility lets it be integrated with modern technologies and fare media like QR codes and NFC, increasing the system’s overall potential and reducing the cost of ownership for transit operators.
NFC fare media are accepted by every smartcard reader/writer installed in the system. Sony Felica contactless tokens and contactless smart cards are also accepted. The use of security keys and the Safe Access module guarantees that all transactions and communications between the media used for transactions, front-end devices, and systems are secure.

Lucknow Metro Automatic Token Collecting Machine

At present, customers can buy tokens and recharge their ‘GoSmart’ travel cards at any of the metro stations with the help of the recharge Card Terminal Machine (RCTM) and the Token Vending Machine (TVM). At every metro station, staff and Customer Relationship Assistance (CRA) are available to assist passengers in obtaining tokens and recharging their GoSmart devices at the RCTM/TVM.
Its main objective is to teach Metro passengers to use automated services more efficiently, saving time. It also helps in reducing manual work and encourages users to utilize automated ticketing systems at metro stations.

Covid -19 Guidelines for Lucknow Metro

These are the guidelines published by the LMRC to reduce the spreading of the Covid-19 virus.

  • Avoid contact with stations at the Metro, particularly in the case of a person who is sick (cough or fever.). Handshakes, hand-holding, and embraces are not recommended.
  • Avoid touching things like doors and chairs.
  • The best way to prevent transmission is to stay educated about the disease and its spread. Avoid a distance of one meter from others, wear a well-fitted mask, and apply an alcohol rub to shield yourself and others from the risk of infection.

Recent News on Lucknow Metro

It is believed that the Lucknow Metro has broken yet another record as the first metro project in the United States to disinfect train cars using ultraviolet (UV) beams. This project by the UP Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) was inspired by New York Metro’s experiments using UV lamp beams to clean trains.

With the primary goal of ensuring the safety of the passengers, the authorities used UV technology to create Lucknow Metro, the safest and most efficient mode of public transport.
